MySQL Reference Manual :: 9.1.4 Boolean Values

Beginning with MySQL 4.1, the constant TRUE evaluates to 1 and the constant FALSE evaluates to 0. The constant names can be written in any lettercase.

mysql> SELECT TRUE, true, FALSE, false;
        -> 1, 1, 0, 0
